“The driving force of a career must come from the individual.”
Homa Bahrami
The placement and choice of the above quote by Professor Homa Bahrami is by no means accidental. For me, it captures the essence of the Springboard Career Exploration Coaching Package which I believe aids in developing my clients’ sense of agency, or control, and in this instance, directly relates to career choice. Having a sense of agency, places you, the career explorer, in the driving seat.
The senior years at high school can be an exciting time for students as they study, explore and prepare to transition to a life beyond secondary education.
As part of this journey students begin to formulate their own understanding of and connection to the world-of-work and what this means for them. Sometimes, however, it can be difficult to grasp just how many opportunities exist beyond the school gate.
As a parent, or caregiver, you play an important role in preparing and supporting your teen to feel inspired, motivated and optimistic about their future and future career path. It’s only natural you want them to access the support and guidance that will give them the clarity and confidence they need to make career, and life, decisions that are right for them.
Actively engaging in this formative stage of career planning can boost self-confidence and strengthen identity whilst simultaneously laying the groundwork for a future of choice versus circumstance.
